The problems we're built to solve
These aren't hypothetical. They're the conversations we have with new ecommerce clients every week.
1099-K never matches Seller Central
Every January the same panic. Cutoff timing, marketplace facilitator tax, refunds, chargebacks. We reconcile it once and document the framework so it never happens again.
Sales tax across 18 states (or 38)
Wayfair changed everything and most brands still don't comply correctly. We do the nexus study, register where you should be, voluntary disclosure where you should have been, and integrate with Avalara, TaxJar, or Anrok.
Marketplace facilitator double-count
Most general bookkeepers double-count Amazon's sales tax remittance, creating phantom liabilities. We design the chart of accounts to handle pass-through correctly.
Pricing without knowing margin
Shopify shows revenue. Amazon shows revenue. Neither shows real contribution margin after fees, ad spend, returns, FBA storage, and chargebacks. We build the unit economics view.
Tariff and landed cost surprises
20% duty hit on a SKU you priced six months ago. We model landed cost into pricing and rebuild margin guardrails so price changes are deliberate.
Cash flow gone sideways during scaling
Inventory tying up cash, ad spend climbing faster than revenue, supplier terms tightening. 13-week cash forecast, working capital plan, financing options scoped.
Platforms we know cold
We've set up the chart of accounts, integrations, and tax handling for every major platform. New ones we learn fast.

From an Amazon seller on r/ecommerce
“Combining data from multiple platforms is turning into a full-time job. Tried Wave and QuickBooks but they feel too heavy or confusing.”
The tools work — but only when configured correctly. That's what we do.

Frequently asked questions
Do you work with brands that sell on more than one platform?
Yes — most of our ecommerce clients sell across at least two channels (Shopify + Amazon, Etsy + Shopify, Amazon + Walmart). The chart of accounts and reconciliation flow we build is designed to keep channel margins separate so you can see what's actually working.
Are you ecommerce specialists or generalists?
Level's CFO and bookkeeping team has deep ecommerce experience — including marketplace facilitator accounting, A2X / Link My Books / Synder, sales tax across all states, FBA fee structures, and inventory accounting. Ecommerce is one of three verticals we go deep on (alongside service businesses and contractors).
Can you handle our sales tax filings?
We don't file sales tax returns directly — that's automated through specialized tools (Avalara, TaxJar, Anrok). What we do: nexus study, register in the right states, configure the tool correctly, integrate with the GL, voluntary disclosure where needed, and reconcile sales tax liability monthly so the filings are accurate.
How fast can you start?
Foundation work (chart of accounts redesign, integration setup, initial close cleanup) usually starts within 2 weeks of engagement. Full ongoing CFO cadence is in place by month 2.
We're already on QuickBooks. Will you make us switch?
No. Both QuickBooks Online and Xero handle ecommerce well if configured correctly. We'll work with whatever you have unless there's a specific scaling reason to migrate (multi-entity, multi-currency, NetSuite-tier complexity).
We do over $20M — are we too big?
Most of our largest clients are $15-30M. Above $30M, you usually need a full-time controller and our role shifts to senior CFO oversight + interim help. We're happy to scope and refer if you've outgrown fractional.
